Tommy Bates uses a biblical, practical approach through cognitive-behavioral, reality therapy, and didactic methods to help clients achieve optimal emotional health. He serves children, teens, adults, and couples. He specializes in helping parents who have children with special needs, as well as helping individuals with special needs. He also works with couples in conflict or in need of improving communication and enhancing their married life.

Tommy is an Associated Licensed Counselor. He is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), helping individuals process trauma. In addition to serving as a counselor, he is a licensed and ordained pastor and has served as a youth pastor, interim pastor, and as a minister in other positions for over 23 years. He has worked in Fatherhood programs and taught counselor education for singles, couples, and parents for a decade in the Montgomery and tri-county area.

He earned his Bachelors of Business Administration from Athens State University in August of 2000 and his Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Troy University in August of 2008.

He has been married for over twenty years, and he and his wife have four children.

Tommy has been with Pathways since September of 2015.
